So, what do I do first?
(or, What are an exhibitor's responsibilities at Innovations 2009?)
- Fill out the Application as completely as you can; tell us what you will need to effectively display your work. The Expo takes place in Dewberry Hall, on the ground floor of the Johnson Center. Each exhibit gets a table and two chairs. Computers are available on a first-come-first-served basis, so sign up early. Such other necessities as electrical power, internet connection, vcr, projector and screen, easel, etc. must be specifically requested on the application.
(Please note: Applications will be responded to after the close date. If you get the "Thank you" message, your application was received, and is in process.) - Remember: The Expo is a visual experience! Viewers--and judges--will be attracted to your work visually before anything else. If your project is a paper or other published work, prepare some kind of visual rendering--posters, PowerPoint, signage, costume, decorations, etc. Exhibits are for...exhibiting.
- Plan to have someone covering your exhibit for the entire show. (You can take breaks, but don't just set it up and leave it. Judges circulate the Expo at different times, and they like to have someone to talk to, to ask questions, etc.) If you can't be there the whole time, get a friend or colleague to cover for you. You should not leave computers or other electronic equipment untended.
- The exhibit facility opens for set up at 9:00am on April 29. Your exhibit should be installed and ready to go by 11:00am, when Innovations opens. The Awards Ceremony is held at 3:30pm, and students and faculty are strongly encouraged to attend. Certificates are presented and forms must be completed to receive the cash awards.
- Faculty sponsors are strongly encouraged to be available.
- If you discover that you will not complete your project in time, or that you will be unable to attend the Expo, contact one of the coordinators below and let someone know at the earliest opportunity. Someone may be waitlisted that would like the table.
- The Expo is over at 4:00pm. Plan to come and break down your exhibit, or have a friend or colleague do it for you. Unfortunately, abandoned projects can end up in the trash.
Deadline for Submissions: April 24, 2009.
Submission Policies: Students may submit work already submitted elsewhere, but the project must have a unique new component. Projects created during the Fall Semester are eligible for display. Student clubs may exhibit independently of a faculty sponsor, provided appropriate contact information is available.
Earlier submissions will receive more attention, and, given space and limited technology considerations, will have higher priority for inclusion. Clarification of technology, space, and other needs is critical to ensure effective presentation of projects.
